Most of us on a spiritual path are curious about past lives.
And why not! The whole idea is fascinating, like following flashbacks from a main character in a novel. We’re always eager to learn more about who we are.
My first past-life memories involved dying, which is the last thing I would have expected. So, I started wondering… why do we recall only certain lifetimes?
Three Reasons You Don’t Remember Everything
Out of the hundreds—or even thousands—of other life experiences you’ve had, why do you typically access only a handful?
First, there’s simply no need to remember them all. Just as there’s no reason to recall every meal, every conversation, and every emotion you’ve experienced in the last 25 years. It would be overwhelming.
Second, your focus is this lifetime. You came here to be present and focused and create this unique lifetime, not get lost in a multitude of memories.
Most importantly, you remember only what truly serves you. The process is neither random nor accidental.
As your higher self, you carefully curate what other-life memories you can access as your human self. Each memory you tap into contains a gift that’s directly relevant to your current life experience.
Maybe it can help you identify a limiting belief or a pattern of behavior you now have an opportunity to change.
Maybe it’s a message of reassurance that, hey, everything’s working out and there’s nothing to worry about.
Or maybe the memory’s purpose is to inspire you to take a risk and try something new.
My recollections of death and dying
In the early days of my spiritual awakening, I underwent two past life regressions. In each session, I vividly re-experienced my own end-of-life transition from physical to non-physical. (Maybe I’ll share those stories one day.)
After the second session, I got the message about why I had re-lived those memories. I needed to let go of any fear I had about death in this lifetime, and that realization was liberating.
Over the years, many clients have requested messages about their Lemurian past lives. I always do my best to access that information, but the answers are often not what they expect. Usually, I explain that their own higher self is the ultimate gatekeeper. I can only access past-life records if the higher self allows it.
There’s always a reason you’re allowed to remember portions of your past lives. There’s always a gift in the memory. And when you do remember, it’s far more important for you to reflect and understand the message being conveyed by the memory than it is to have an interesting story to tell.
