You know that feeling. You have a problem or difficult situation and you need an answer. And you need it now.
But often, no matter how badly you want to find your way around or through a challenge, you can’t seem to find a path forward.
Well, sometimes being hopeful is enough. Simply choosing to feel optimistic about your situation can begin to create a path out of your predicament.
Remember: your higher self holds all the answers you will ever need. But you’re not always ready to receive an answer. Usually, it’s because you’re too focused on the problem or the negative aspects of your situation.
The myth of problem-solving
Most of us were taught to be problem-solvers. So, we believe we need to focus on the problem.
I used to think that being a competent problem-solver was a good thing. Eventually I discovered that focusing on what we don’t want (i.e., the problem) actually keeps us stuck. In fact it usually makes things worse.
Before I go any further, here’s today’s big take-away:
When you give all your attention to a problem, you prevent your conscious awareness from perceiving a solution.
Have you noticed that insights and solutions usually come to us when we’re taking a shower or driving or daydreaming? That’s because answers are able to float into our awareness when we’re distracted from the problem, not thinking about it.
A wise master once told me, “The question cannot exist without the answer.”
That simple sentence completely shifted my perspective on problem solving. It was comforting to know that each time I thought of something as a problem, the solution already existed.
But here’s the tricky part. Despite their co-existence, it’s impossible to focus on a problem and perceive a solution simultaneously.
Why? Because question and answer have different vibrations. The problem and its solution vibrate at different frequencies. And you can only truly focus your conscious awareness on one frequency at a time.
The secret? Stop trying.
The next time you find yourself immersed in a problem and don’t know what to do, stop trying. Gently re-focus your thoughts towards the possibility of solutions and away from the problem.
In other words, let go of the struggle and choose to feel hopeful about your situation.
Regardless of the perceived problem—a lack of money, diminished physical health, a difficult relationship, etc.—you always have a choice. You can choose to feel either optimistic or miserable.
Usually, the simple step of choosing to feel hopeful is enough to get you going in the right direction. And once you’ve chosen to redirect your focus, you can guide yourself along this new, positive path in a kind, encouraging way.
I know an answer already exists.
And I know it’s the best answer for me.
I trust my higher self to show me the way.
I choose to be optimistic.
I look forward to receiving the answers I need.
I trust the process of life.
I choose now to focus my attention on something else…
Each time you redirect your awareness away from the problem, you begin to create space in your reality for solutions to come.
