The Universe is constantly broadcasting messages of encouragement, reassurance, and guidance to you. It’s sending you inspiration and shortcuts to help make your life easier and more enjoyable.
But these subtle communications face some serious competition.
Your senses are bombarded constantly by whatever is going on around you—sights, sounds and smells—as well as inside you—physical sensations, emotions, and as many as 50,000 thoughts a day.
With all that stimuli, how can you possibly tell what’s most meaningful? And how can you be sure you’re not missing valuable missives from the Universe?
First, set your intent. Make a choice. Tell your higher self you choose to become more aware of helpful messages and signs from the Universe.
Next, pay attention. Anything out of the ordinary that grabs your attention is worth considering for a moment. Ask yourself, What’s the message here?
What grabs your attention?
The other day my wife Mamiko and I were sitting in our car at a red light. I had a sudden impulse to turn my head 90 degrees.
“Ooh, a butterfly,” I said. A giant Hawaiian monarch was dancing above the car next to us. As soon as I spoke, it flew directly in front of me and danced for a moment.
Mamiko didn’t see it. The experience was meant for me and me alone.
I immediately understood the message this butterfly carried for me: Everything’s OK. There’s nothing to worry about. You’re becoming everything you wanted to be. Everything’s good. Trust the process.
The Universe had found a creative way to catch my attention in that moment so that I would be more open to receive a thought I really needed to receive in that moment.
If I hadn’t practiced paying heed to things that catch my attention, I wouldn’t have received this loving message from my higher self.
With a little practice, you can get really good at getting these messages.
A wise-woman friend from Canada gave me an easy way to remember how to be more aware throughout each day. She said, “Notice what you notice.”
I love the simplicity of this directive, and I think it almost every day. I know it’s helped me receive more guidance and reassurance from my higher self and the Universe.
Try it. Remind yourself, “Notice what you notice.”
And then, notice what you notice.
