Are you struggling with the energies of the New Year? Feeling lethargic? Unmotivated? Spacey?
If so, you’re not alone.
In the last few weeks, many of us on a spiritual path have been having extra trouble getting out of bed in the morning. Some folks aren’t feeling motivated to do much of anything, especially if it involves the muggle world. Others are simply feeling down and depressed.
A lot of us have been coping with daily energetic discomforts. Here are some of the symptoms I’ve heard about recently.
- Feeling heavy in the morning
- Experiencing energy symptoms at night (sore throat, headaches)
- Mind and body wanting to shut down mid-afternoon
- Waking up several times during the night
- Bouts of spacey-ness throughout the day
As I sit here typing, I’m feeling a little ungrounded and it’s hard to focus. My crown and third-eye chakras are active, I feel an energetic heaviness descending upon my body, and there’s a high-pitched tone in my left ear. What’s going on?
A period of preparation
My guides have told me that many of us are being re-calibrated at this time. There’s a line-up of significant, energetic shifts in our near future, and in order for us to fully integrate these new influxes of energy, we need to be prepared on multiple levels of consciousness.
And so we require a little . . . adjustment. High councils of light along with our higher selves are readying us energetically for the times ahead.
It’s easier for them to adjust our vibrational patterns and tweak our DNA if we’re calm and relaxed. It’s much harder for them when we’re physically, emotionally or mentally over-active.
So at this point, we’re being forced, in a way, to take it slow for a while and not get swept up in the chaos of the world.
But why all these energy shifts?
Well, we’re mutating. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but it’s the truth as I know it. We’re experiencing minute changes and energetic adjustments each and every day. We’re evolving individually and collectively toward a quantum leap in human consciousness.
Some call it ascension. I like to call it the Shift.
The energetic changes required by the ascension process are initiated in the non-physical parts of our being. Eventually, these changes ripple down into our physical bodies. Hence, the frequent discomforts.
Think of a caterpillar in its chrysalis. In a matter of days it can transform into a completely new life form.
Humanity is currently undergoing a profound transformation of its own. Except unlike a caterpillar, our metamorphosis is unfolding over a period of years rather than days. Our chrysalis is the human body.

Welcome to the new normal
I remember experiencing some particularly strong waves of ascension energy back in August 2013. The message I received at the time was that this type of experience would be the norm from now on.
Looking back over the last two and half years, I’d say my spirit guides were spot on. Every week or month or season since then has featured some kind of new energetic wave or phase.
Regular influxes of energy accompanied by physical, emotional and mental symptoms is the new normal. We just have to be OK with it. The symptoms may change from week to week, but it’s all about us evolving toward a common goal. We just need to learn how to surf the waves rather than thrash around (or wallow) in them.
And it doesn’t matter what you blame as the source or cause of the latest influx of energy—solar flares, astrological influences, Mother Earth’s shifting energy, mass consciousness, etc. The bottom line is that it’s all related to the Shift, both individually and globally.
Relax and breathe
I know you probably have a long list of things you want to accomplish this year. If you’ve been feeling less-than-your-full-and-productive-self over the last few weeks, don’t fret.
You’re not losing time and you’re not behind schedule. Everything’s unfolding as it needs to.
The worst thing you can do is fight the tides. The best thing you can do is be gentle with yourself and keep your vibration high.
Here are some practical tips to keep your head above water, regardless of the energy flux du jour:
- Breathe – A few minutes of deep breathing throughout the day can help you remain centered and present in the moment. It brings calm and balance, both physically and non-physically.
- Stretch – Practicing yoga is great. But if it’s not your thing or if it’s not convenient, even 10 minutes of simple stretching exercises a day can help energy flow through your four bodies.
- Meditate – This is the most important suggestion on the list. As I always say, 10 minutes of meditation twice a day will change your life. It’s a great way of staying in tune with the Shift, your higher self, and the larger plans at work in your life.
- Eat lightly – Avoid heavy or processed foods. Instead eat as many fresh, vegetarian, organic (and raw) foods as possible.
- Spend more time in nature – Our ascension as human beings is an integral part of Mother Earth’s ascension. It only makes sense that we spend time regularly connecting with Her—away from crowds and buildings and noise. Get out into the elements and allow the frequencies of the natural world help you reconnect and remain balanced.
Also, remind yourself regularly that it’s not always about you. There’s a lot going on in the world, and because everything is energy, what goes on in the world affects you, whether you know it or not.
When you find yourself dealing with energetic symptoms, remember that sometimes it’s about you, sometimes it’s about mass human consciousness, and sometimes it’s something bigger than all of us.
Not everyone is struggling with ascension symptoms right now. Some folks are full of energy, focused, and rockin’ and rollin’ in the New Year. That’s great. I just wanted to make sure that if you had been feeling out of sorts recently, you weren’t getting discouraged.
